In this month’s investor update, our CRM manager, George Santa-Olalla, speaks with our director of investment strategy, Brad Holland, about how the continued easing of lockdown measures in global economies has impacted the markets in May. They also discuss market volatility, particularly in the Nasdaq and emerging markets, and our latest views on developments in cryptocurrencies, as well as taking a look at our portfolio performance.

Our goal at Nutmeg is to provide a powerful and yet straightforward investment experience for all our clients. This means that we constantly evaluate what we offer clients with a view to making improvements. Our approach to constantly look at ways of enhancing the key features and services we offer has led us to review and reinvent the client dashboard. Here, we will look at the design process we followed to launch what we believe is a more powerful, intuitive and, most importantly, valuable tool for our clients.

While the last year has been financially difficult for so many people, we have also seen both new and existing clients who have been fortunate enough to have more disposable income as a result of reduced expenditure on leisure, hospitality, commuting and holidays. With interest rates at historically low levels and looking set to stay there for the foreseeable future, many people have either started investing for the first time or increased the amount they invest.

In the last months of 2020, we undertook a strategic review of our referral programme. Despite being very successful since its launch in 2018, with over 10,000 of our investors having been referred by their friends, there was room for improvement. Following feedback from clients, we’re excited to announce our new and improved refer a friend programme.

This is the technology that lets apps such as Yolt, Emma and Money Dashboard bring together different accounts, including your Nutmeg account, to give you an overview of your money. Open Banking offers other benefits, too. A great example is in payments. 

Rather than bombard you with our musings on why Open Banking is the future (because it is), in this post we focus on one area, payments, and show you how we built them into the Nutmeg journey.
