We’ve just launched a new feature on the Nutmeg app. You can now take a detailed look at your projection chart to see how your investments are expected to fare over the timeframe you’ve chosen, and even see the difference that paying more money in could make to your expected value in real time.
Good things come in threes
Tap on any of your pots and you’ll find you now have three graphs offering different views on your investment.
The graph showing the pot’s performance to date, and the one showing the different assets your pot is invested in, remain the same. You can still dig a little deeper by double-tapping the graph or hitting the ⤢ icon in the top right-hand corner of each graph.
The new graph is all about the selected pot’s projections. At the top, you’ll see the projected value of the pot at the end of the timeframe you chose when you set it up, and under it, the projections are shown spanning regular time intervals between now and your end goal. The solid green line at the bottom shows your pot size based on your projected contributions without considering returns. If you’re not contributing regularly, this will show a flat line representing the current level of contributions.
The fan chart shows a range of expected values for the pot over time. You should note that these numbers reflect the value in the middle of a range of projected outcomes, taking the Nutmeg management fee and, if it’s a pension, the effect of inflation into account, showing you projections in today’s money.
As with the first two charts, you can dig a little deeper on these projections by double-tapping the graph or hitting the ⤢ icon in the top right-hand corner. Once you’re in, you’ll see your expected value at the end of your investment timeframe at the top of the page, shown above the value of your pot if returns are bad.
You can also slide along your projected investment timeframe to see how the expected value is expected to develop as time goes by.
See what you could achieve from the moment you pay in
Ever wondered how much more your investment might achieve if you paid in a little more? The app now shows you that too.
Head to the pay in page and select one of your pots. As you type in an amount, you’ll see the expected impact of your contribution on your expected value in real time. This means you can try out different amounts before committing, which might help support your decision on how much you’d like to add.
If you’re already investing with Nutmeg and you have the app, this is all yours already.
But even if you’re completely new to Nutmeg, your projections will be waiting as soon as your first contributions clear.
As with all investing, your capital is at risk. The value of your portfolio with Nutmeg can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you invest. Projections are never a perfect predictor of future performance, and are intended as an aid to decision-making, not as a guarantee. The projection includes the effect of Nutmeg fees, investment fund costs, and market spread – personalised to your planned contributions.
