Neil does a lot of research as he likes to understand his finances and the risks associated with his investments. He has a pension and ISA with Nutmeg, and enjoys the lower fee level he gets across both.

Neil, who runs his own IT consulting business, has been investing with Nutmeg since 2013.

While he doesn’t budget too stringently or micromanage his finances, he likes to understand where his money is and how it’s doing. Neil does a lot of research and ensures he understands the risks and long-term outlook for his investments.

“I’m not investing for one big thing – like a yacht – it’s just to make sure that when I retire, my family can have a decent life.”

Neil is investing for the long term, as he wants to be able work less as he gets older. He wants to make sure his family is provided for in later life or, if anything should happen to him, he’d like to know his family will be ok financially.

“My overall fee level is combined between my ISA and pension so I get a lower level of fees across both.”

His company pension is now also with Nutmeg, so his company makes monthly employer pension contributions straight into his Nutmeg pot. Neil really likes that his overall fee is combined between his ISA and pension, as it means he benefits from a lower level of fees across both, saving himself a little more money.

Risk warning: As with all investing, your capital is at risk. The value of your portfolio with Nutmeg can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you invest. Past or future performance indicators are not a reliable indicator of future performance. Tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and may be subject to change in the future.
